China Power
Created for The Center for Strategic and International Studies
I designed and developed this interactive on poverty in china for the October feature from the China Power Project. Researchers from China Power and CSIS were interested in showing how poverty had changed in China over the last 30 years and how that compared to other developing countries. I developed a custom chart that uses a proportional circle with two halfs, one representing poverty at the starting point, and the other showing the change to modern day. Since the data categorizes three levels of poverty, this is reflected in the data by concentric circles, which represent the different poverty bands. I also designed an animated legend that helps readers understand this unorthodox chart.
